Blessing in Disguise

I know I posted a while back that I had gotten a job and would soon be returning to work. Well, long story short, that position did not work out and I have since been on the job market. Suffice it to say, I have LOVED spending these last 4 months with my precious baby girl. I think the Lord had this little blessing for me all along and I am thankful for the opportunity He's given me. When the time comes, I will return to work with a joyful heart and many fond memories of our special season together. Maria has been the best (and most difficult!) boss I've ever had the pleasure of working for!

Lesson Learned

I'll admit it: Tim was right.

I really wanted to have some family photos taken for a Christmas card this year, so we asked our talented friend Jeff to take some for us. With the weather getting colder and the sun setting earlier, we quickly made plans to get it done. We also knew that with a baby, our time (and her patience) would be limited!

The day came and as I discussed my plans to change her and feed her right beforehand, Tim suggested I wait and change her outfit at the park so as to avoid any wardrobe mishaps involving bodily fluids. I, of course, thought I could escape such tragedy using various methods of coverings, so went to feed her, both of us wearing our picture-perfect outfits. As I sat her up to burp her, I heard and SAW an explosion coming from the top-back of her diaper, under her adorable dress. Unfortunately her outfit was an instant casualty, and because of my slow response time, so was mine. I yelled to Tim, through my laughter and he gave a knowing smile. He didn't even have to say "I told you so!"

Needless to say, Jeff did a great job, but I couldn't get over the hurried outfit choices, so we took another, less professional photo on Thanksgiving that we will be using instead! Sorry, Jeff :)

Three Months

Three months is so much fun! Maria is full of smiles (although I could not capture one during our photo shoot), 'talking' up a storm, and must be only days away from giving us her first giggles. I've noticed so many changes in her in just the last week or so and I am amazed at her development. She is reaching, touching, grabbing, trying to sit up, starting to blow bubbles, splashing in her bath, and her reactions to us are priceless! We have also had incredible breakthrough with her nap and nigh time sleeping. She has slept well at night for a while now, but only in her bassinet in our room, and naps have been a bit of a struggle. This week, we moved her to her crib in the nursery and she learned how to suck her thumb to soothe herself which have made all the difference. Now she is taking 3-4 short naps throughout the day and sleeping 9-11 hours at night, waking only once or not at all! Like I said, 3 months is such a great age!

Two Months

Maria turned 2 months old yesterday! We had her check-up today and she is one, healthy girl! She is 22.5 inches long and weighs 11 lbs. 7 oz. She did have her first shots, too, but they were only slightly traumatic. After a quick cry, she was easily consoled by her daddy. I can't believe how much we love our baby girl!

Stay at Home Mom

For the past 7 and a half weeks, I have been lucky enough to stay at home with my precious baby. Monday will be my first day back to work and even though it's only part-time, I will miss her. Time seems to be flying by and I don't want to miss one special moment with my little girl. Thankfully, though, her daddy will be the one to watch her while I work, so I know that will be a special time for the two of them. Oh, the stories I'll hear when I come home!

Maria,
Mommy has LOVED being home with you for these first 8 weeks of your life. Each day we learn a little more about each other and each day I grow to love you more. I love snuggling you before you fall asleep and giving you baths in the kitchen sink. I love playing together after I change your diaper and having silly conversations about your puppy, Oliver or your buddy, Mortimer. Now it will be just you and Daddy in the morning and you will have so much fun! I can't wait to hear all about it!
Love,
Mommy

One Month Old!

As of September 7th, Maria is already a month old! Where has the time gone? We have learned A LOT this past month and have enjoyed getting to know our little bird. Isn't she the cutest thing you've ever seen?!

Precious pictures

Although I haven't even taken the time to announce our special arrival, I thought I should post a few pictures for those who may be missing little Maria (Hi Dad!) Hopefully I'll be able to write about her birth soon, but staring at this cute face is taking up all of my time right now :)

39 Weeks and "The Plan"

As of this weekend, I have carried this precious baby for a full 39 weeks. I have loved literally every minute of pregnancy and have been blessed with good health and relative comfort the entire time. Although I am ecstatic to meet our little girl, there is a part of me that will miss this. The beauty of expectancy; the connection between a mother and the child she is carrying within her; feeling change and growth over 9 months; experiencing the love and anxiousness a father feels before meeting his daughter for the first time. It has been a journey of hope and each step has brought us closer to the Lord, each other, and the beginning of our lives as parents to a beautiful baby. I am overwhelmed with gratitude, to say the least.

After my doctor's appointment this past week, "The Plan" for meeting our baby bird is to be induced beginning Wednesday evening if labor has not begun on its own before then. Although ideally she would come on her own time, we also know that her size may prove difficult as it is, so it will be prudent to encourage her arrival. Needless to say, no matter when or how she arrives, we are more than ready to have her in our arms!

Hope to have good news for you next week - until then, we will be enjoying our last few days (or hours) as a family of 2!

Bird Watch

The cute, little counter up there is telling me that there are only 10 days until baby bird is due!!! That number sounds both far away and incredibly soon at the same time.

We are officially on "bird watch" here in the Graciano house and the excitement and anticipation are overflowing! Interestingly, though I feel very calm and as Tim has observed, fairly "focused". I have not been intentional about mentally preparing for childbirth, but I think it is happening all the same. I have a deep sense of peace because I know the Lord has given me the desire to be a mother and He will protect me and provide for me. That is not to say that I won't experience pain or discomfort, but I know the end result is worth every sacrifice!

Out of curiousity, my doctor scheduled a growth-check ultrasound last week and our baby girl is looking as health as ever. Healthy and good size, to be sure! According to the measurements, she is currently around 8lbs 9oz! Although ultrasounds this far along are much less accurate than earlier, it is safe to say that she will be an adorably plump baby. Tim has said all along that he would really like to have a chubby baby, so I'm sure this is a gift especially for him!

As you have noticed by now, I did not take a 38 week picture. I spent so much time sweating over the weekend that I never really got dressed into anything more than comfy clothes or if I did, I had forgotten to take a picture before I changed again! Needless to say, the heat is becoming somewhat obnoxious, but still not unbearable. Uninterrupted sleep is hard to come by these days as well between bathroom trips and having to change positions every couple of hours. With this being my last week of work, I plan to take many naps until baby girl finally decides to arrive - I can't wait!

Hopefully my next post will be an introduction to our beautiful bird! Until then, we'll be here trying to stay cool and enjoying these last few days of simplicity.

37 Weeks

At 37 weeks, baby bird is now officially full-term! This means that her lungs should be fully mature and they would be ready to adjust to life outside the womb if I deliver before my due date. Partially because of this, Tim and I have been working hard finishing all of the baby related projects this weekend with the hope that she might come a little early. We now have the nursery nearly completed (we're only waiting on a few little things), the car seat installed, the baby's necessary items packed and ready, as well as the office rearranged and transformed into a guest room. Tim has now been trying to coax the baby out with many amusing tactics such as offering her ice cream and telling her about her fun nursery. We simply cannot wait to meet our little girl!

Bird House

Baby bird's house is nearly complete, so I thought I'd share pictures of her soon-to-be home.

We can't wait for you to arrive, little girl!

Laundry

Folding little clothes on a Saturday afternoon and imagining what she'll look like in all of them.

Tiny socks are by far the cutest thing I've ever seen!

36 Weeks

As you can see by this picture, not only does my body look ready to have this baby, but the nursery is also getting ready! This weekend Tim assembled both the crib and the changing table/dresser all by himself (I did help, but it consisted only of holding pieces and parts when necessary and it was all done from the comfort of a rocking chair)! Once we have a few more things on the walls and a little more organization, I will make sure to post pictures of the nursery. With all of the stuff I have to put away, it is evident that she is one lucky, little girl!

Speaking of our little girl, she is now 36 weeks along (only one week away from full term). She now weighs about 6 pounds (or maybe more in our case) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. I have definitely been feeling Braxton Hicks contractions the last few weeks, but they are no where near consistent or often and are completely painless. I have a doctor's appointment this week and then every other week hereafter until baby girl arrives. Honestly, I'm hoping she comes a little early - not too early, of course, but maybe just a week or so! Here's to the last 4 weeks of pregnancy and life as family of two!!!

35 Weeks

Hard to believe that we only have 5 weeks until our baby bird is due. With that said, it may be somewhat obvious as I seem to look more and more tired with each week! This pregnancy stuff is pretty exhausting; and combined with the recent jump in temperature here, I am worn out! Fortunately, though, I am carrying a healthy baby girl and it won't be long until I'm snuggling her in my arms. Speaking of snuggling, our bird is now starting to pack on the pounds to fill out her little frame. At 35 weeks she weighs over 5 1/4 pounds and is more that 18 inches long. Tim and I are working on our "bets" about how big she will be (in pounds and inches), so if you want to join in, leave a comment or email me your best guess and we'll see who is the closest when she arrives.

This week has been an eventful one. We have had a few visitors and made quite a bit of progress in the baby preparation department. My wonderful friend, Krista stopped by for a quick visit and it was so much fun to catch up! I realized this will probably be our last time together before she officially becomes Auntie Krista! We were also fortunate enough to have both of Tim's parents in town and they were such a huge help. First, they delivered a comfy rocking chair that my mom so kindly donated to the nursery. Then, we made a successful trip to Babies R Us in Spokane followed by a Fourth of July spent painting the nursery. It looks adorable! As soon as I have it set up, I will be sure to share photos. And, as I told them as they left, this will be the last time they leave our house without a granddaughter to say goodbye to. What a great weekend! Hope everyone had a fun 4th!

34 Weeks

Here I am posting a week late again - either I have a busy social life or I am 8 months pregnant and choosing to do nothing as much as possible! In order to get to the more current events, I will make this post short and sweet. At 34 weeks baby bird is now about 4 3/4 pounds and almost 18 inches long. She is still moving and hiccuping like crazy and she remains in a head-down position which will be perfect for her big debut! Only 3 weeks until full term (37 weeks) and there's still plenty to be done before then. Wish me luck!

33 Weeks

Ok; I feel better now that I am caught up! Baby girl is now 33 weeks along - only 7 weeks to go! Unreal, isn't it? Although she's a bit bigger than average, I've read that she should now be over 4 pounds and has passed the 17-inch mark in length. I can tell her bones are forming well, too, because her movements are very pronounced and her kicks to the ribs are not so forgiving! She has also had the hiccups quite a bit lately and I just love to stop what I'm doing to concentrate on her little vibrations. I can just picture her in there wondering what in the world her body is doing! It must be a little weird at first. I have also figured out what I like least about being pregnant - swollen ankles and feet. It seems like such a minor complaint, but I just can't stand it. Oh well, it will be over soon enough and it will be more than worth it! That's what I get for wanting a summer baby, too!

This weekend was my last baby shower (#4!) given by my work friends. I've had so much fun celebrating our little girl with the people who mean the most to me. It's such a blessing to be reminded how loved and supported we are in this journey. Everyone is so generous and we are beyond grateful. Now that the festivities have passed I think we're ready to just go ahead and have this little girl in our arms!

32 Weeks

Yikes. I'm a week late on this one, but the picture is accurate. I've had some busy weekends lately and I also finished my summer class last week, so now I only have to think about baby (and Timmy)! As of 32 weeks, baby girl weighs almost 4 pounds and is about 16.7 inches long. From the sounds of it though, our bird is somewhat bigger than average and the doctor estimates she'll be around 8 1/2 pounds at birth! I'm still telling myself that giving birth will be no problem at all!

31 Weeks

This weekend, baby bird and I hit the 31 week mark which means only 9 weeks to go! Everything seems a little more real when the week countdown is in the single digits! Now that we know she's measuring big for her gestation, I hope it's ok that I still use the generic size and weights that I find on Babycenter. You don't mind do you? In that case, our girl is now measuring over 16 inches long and weighs about 3 1/2 pounds. Amazing, isn't it? I can definitely feel every move our little big one makes, which is still fascinating to me. I don't think I will ever tire of such a miraculous thing.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Our beautiful baby girl at 30 weeks 6 days:

As far as results go, we will learn more when I meet with my doctor next Thursday, but it looks like she is a little bigger than average and my amniotic fluid levels are somewhat higher than normal. We're not sure what this all means as far as next steps and such, but we'll be sure to ask plenty of questions next week. The technologist was trying to get a clear shot of her profile, but she had her hands in front of her face the entire time (even after some prodding to encourage her to put them down)! And aren't those just the cutest, little toes you've ever seen?! We are in love, to say the least!

30 Weeks

Only 10 weeks to go! Time is absolutely flying by and as much as I want to meet our little girl, I also want to enjoy every last minute of my first pregnancy. This has been such a precious time for Tim and I and I think I'll be a little sad when it comes to an end - not for long though because I'll have a beautiful baby to hold instead.

Speaking of my beautiful bird, she is now about 15 1/2 inches long and she weighs just over 3 pounds (about the same as a head of cabbage). At my doctors appointment last week, we learned that she is now measuring 3 1/2 weeks ahead of schedule so I have another ultrasound at the end of this week to see why that might be. It seems we may have a big baby on our hands (or in our tummy)! Lucky for us, we'll get to 'see' our girl again and will hopefully have a few more pictures to share with everyone.

29 Weeks

First of all, I have to tell you that right now the baby has the hiccups and it is so strange to feel that constant rhythm as well as her moving around! This is the first time I've noticed hiccups, so I'm pretty excited! Speaking of our precious baby, she is now (or was as of Saturday, since I'm a little late posting this) just over 15 inches long and weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (similar to a butternut squash). I can tell that she is filling out in there because I'm starting to feel some pain in my ribs which is most likely from her strong, little legs. Tim and I are trying to tell her to take it easy on her mama, but I would get antsy too if I was her!

As you can see, my 29 week picture is not the typical profile in front of our door to the garage. I actually forgot to take one this weekend since we were having so much fun on the west side with family and friends. I'm not sure how far along he is, but my brother is looking pretty pregnant as well these days! I just love this picture! Our busy weekend was filled with celebrations for both our little girl and my awesome sister-in-law who graduated from PLU on Sunday! We also took baby bird to her first Mariner's game and we saw Randy Johnson pitch and Ken Griffey Jr. almost hit a grand slam (just almost)! Beautiful weather, family and friends...it was perfect! See for yourself:

28 Weeks - Hello Third Trimester

Whew! I look extremely pregnant in this picture! Since we don't have a full-size mirror, I don't get this view very often and each week I am surprised at my expanding profile. At 28 weeks, baby bird weighs about 2 1/4 pounds and is about 14.8 inches long. At my doctor's appointment last week I was measuring at 30 weeks, so I asked if that meant I should plan on an earlier delivery date. As of right now, we are just going to keep an eye on my measurements and then I'll be given another ultrasound if necessary to do some more precise measurements of the baby. The increase in size that we're seeing could be a result of excess fluid or just how the baby is positioned in there. It's somewhat exciting to think that we could have a baby a little earlier than planned, though! Obviously I'll keep everyone posted as we find out more. Otherwise, the baby and I are completely healthy and moving along just fine. Well, I'm moving a little slower these days, but still mobile! This whole experience seems to be going by too quickly, but I am excited to meet my baby girl!

Sunday, May 10, 2009

27 Weeks

This weekend baby bird weighs as much as a head of cauliflower (2 lbs) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. When I held this head of cauliflower I realized just how big she is getting and I even rocked it in my arms to see what it would feel like to hold her right now! I think I talked about her amazing activity level last week, but I am still so enthralled by how much she moves and grooves in there! Last night we sat a half empty water bottle on my belly and just watched how much it moved with her kicks and punches. We're pretty sure she holds a private dance party in there every night!

The weather was BEAUTIFUL this weekend and I'm so sad to see the gray clouds moving in this evening. I am ready for sun and warmth, but I have noticed that I'm getting sun burned a little easier now that I'm pregnant. I guess I'll just be more diligent about lathering up the sunscreen. Hope you all had a gorgeous weekend as well. See you next week!

26 Weeks

I obviously didn't dress up for you all today since I had a lazy Sunday planned with copious amounts of baking to do. I also didn't take the time to purchase the 'baby' veggie this week because...well, I just didn't, so you'll have to get out your rulers for this one! Our little bird is closer to 2 pounds now in weight and measures about 14 inches long (the length of an English hothouse cucumber). She is super active, too, so I'm curious to see how wiggly she'll be when we can hold her in our arms.

We had another check-up last week and everything is still looking great. She is measuring just about a week ahead of her due date, but that could easily change between now and then. I also had a glucose test done to make sure that I haven't developed gestational diabetes and I am still waiting for the results. I am praying that it comes back negative because we all know how much the baby (!) loves her sweets :)

With this extra weight I am carrying around now, I have made a few minor adjustments and purchases to keep me as comfortable as possible. At work, I now have a little foot step under my desk to keep my legs elevated and the blood circulating. I also bought arch support inserts for my flatter shoes so that my feet, legs, and back would remain as pain free as possible. Just today, we finally picked up a body pillow which will hopefully allow me to get comfortable a little easier when it comes time to go to bed. I'm thankful that I feel so great, though, since I only have 14 weeks left!

25 Weeks

We've hit the 25 week mark and I'm already feeling quite large! This belly of mine is holding the most precious package ever, but it sure gets in my way these days. As you can see, our baby bird is definitely growing - she is now about 13 1/2 inches long and a weighs a pound and a half. We still have 15 weeks to go so she needs to keep growing. We've come to the conclusion that she just likes to show off and steal attention so of course she is making herself known! Also, many people have asked me what we plan to name her and we don't have anything nailed down for sure, but our favorite name is Maria. We plan to keep our options open until she arrives because there are just so many choices. There is so much pressure when it comes to naming a human being. Usually my naming habits for animals and cars and things is pretty unoriginal, but it's much more difficult naming this baby girl!

24 Weeks

Well, these last 24 weeks have definitely flown by! Baby girl now weighs over a pound and is over a foot long (about the length of an ear of corn, which Tim says are not in season yet!) At least a few times a day it feels like she's having a dance party in there and I love to just watch her pokes and prods. On Wednesday this last week I did take a trip to the hospital birthing center because I hadn't felt any significant movements for about 24 hours. I called my doctor's office that evening and they suggested I just go and get checked out so I did. Of course she started showing off the moment I was hooked up to the fetal doppler, but I was thankful and relieved that I went. Tim has been the most wonderful husband throughout this entire pregnancy, which has not surprised me! He goes to the store whenever a craving hits (lately it has been grapes, cinnamon roles, and pie) and he even painted my toenails for me last night since they are a little difficult to reach :) Seriously, he is amazing! I can't wait to see how he treasures our baby girl.

23 Weeks

Happy Easter! How even more thankful I am for God's mercy and forgiveness in this season of life. I know I won't be the perfect wife or mother, but I am loved and forgiven! In this 23rd week of pregnancy, I can't even put into words how much I enjoy carrying this little girl inside of me. This is the ultimate experience of living in expectancy and each moment is filled with anticipation - for another round of kicks from inside my belly; for my family's future; for holidays shared with Tim and our child(ren).

This week, our baby girl is over a foot long and weighs just over a pound (the same as a large mango). She is kicking up a storm and I'm starting to notice her regular patterns throughout the day. I love seeing Tim's face light up when he can feel his daughter reacting to his voice! This is such a precious time for us and as excited as I am to have her here, I love everything about being pregnant.

22 Weeks

Baby girl has officially been growing inside of me for 22 weeks now. She's 11 inches long (the length of a spaghetti squash) and weighs nearly a pound! (The squash I'm holding here weighs 2 pounds, so she's not quite that big yet!) Things have still been going really well as far as how I'm feeling, thankfully. I realize, though, that my little complaints about my belly getting in the way some times will be magnified as time goes on because I'm not getting any smaller over the next 4 months! We've gotten some special gifts from generous family members, so we already have her crib, changing table/dresser, pack-n-play (for bassinet use right away), and her infant carseat is ordered as well. These are all amazing blessings and we are having so much fun preparing for our little girl. We picked up the pack-n-play on Saturday and the minute we got it out of the car, Tim was setting it up! We are both extremely excited, obviously :) Thanks to everyone for sharing in our excitement.
p.s. Does anyone have any ideas for how we should use up this spaghetti squash?

21 Weeks

My belly isn't quite as exciting as the little girl who is inside it, but I might as well share it anyway. Baby girl and I are at 21 weeks now and she is as long as a carrot (about 10 1/2 inches) and according to the ultrasound, weighs 14 ounces. All of her measurements are right on track, so even though I look pretty big already, she is not a huge baby (thank goodness). Since we found out the sex, I've already purchased this adorable outfit I've had my eye on for a few months as well as most of the crib bedding that I fell in love with when I first became pregnant. It all feels so real now! We love you so much already baby bird!

It's a...

GIRL!

Here SHE is - our baby bird! Isn't she the most beautiful little girl you've ever seen? Tim and I couldn't be happier! The moment the ultrasound tech told us it was a girl, we both grinned excitedly at each other and Tim did a celebratory fist pump into the air. It was absolutely adorable to see my husband so ecstatic about his little girl. This ultrasound was quite a bit longer than the first and we got to see every part of her, perfectly formed and functioning. For a while she was still, but then she started wiggling around for us and Tim said she was probably showing off! What a joy to see our baby healthy and happy. Even though we've heard stories about about incorrect gender predictions, our tech told us that there is no way we're having a boy and the second picture should prove that :)  Now onto the fun stuff like picking a name, planning the nursery, and looking at cute, girly things! Thank you for sharing this exciting time with us. We can't wait for all of you to meet our baby girl!

20 Weeks - Half Way There!

On Saturday we hit the 20-week mark which means we're already HALF WAY there! Wow! Baby bird is now 10 1/2 ounces and 10 inches long (from heat to heel), about the length of a banana. The little "kicks" are getting stronger and more consistent, but we're still waiting for more muscle power so Tim can join in the fun. I am finally starting to notice that this belly of mine is going to get in the way sometimes. My arms are losing comfortable positions when I lay down to sleep each night and every single crumb and food particle that misses my mouth finds a new home somewhere on my protruding middle. Although I may have a few more complaints as this pregnancy progresses, I am loving every minute of it! Friday is our big day when we will be able to rejoice specifically over our son or daughter to come. We...cannot... wait! We will share our news with all of you as soon as possible so you can share the excitement. I also had to share a picture of the cutest little gift that baby bird's Aunt Nellie bought her:

A tiny Starbucks onesie! How perfect! Thanks, Nellie! See you all Friday :)

19 Weeks

After being out of town for an abbreviated spring break, baby and I are back with a 19 week update just before the 20-week mark. Our little bird is now the size of a large heirloom tomato weighing 8 1/2 ounces and measuring 6 inches from head to bottom. I added the inset picture for comparison since, in all our visiting fun, I did not think to pick up an heirloom tomato. This last week was especially exciting not only because we were able to spend time with family and friends, but also because I'm sure now that the occasional twitch I have been feeling is actually the baby! It is still weak and inconsistent, but what an incredible sensation! It will only get stronger from here and I'm looking forward to sharing this experience with Tim.

18 Weeks

Time is flying by! Baby and I are already 18 weeks along which means she/he (we think it's a she, by the way) is 5 1/2 inches long (about the size of a sweet potato) and weighs 6 ounces. This little one is definitely going through a growth spurt because I am constantly hungry. I'm also taking way more trips to the restroom than usual, so I think she's starting to crowd my bladder. I've slowly been working on a list of baby necessities and a registry, but there are so many choices! Tim and I are taking a trip to the west side this weekend, so I'm excited to do some product browsing in person. Luckily, though, with the research I've done online, I shouldn't be too overwhelmed. Fun times ahead! I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Coming Soon

I had a routine check-up today and baby bird's heartbeat was going strong like usual, but it was still exciting to hear. The big news, though, is that I made my ultrasound appointment where we will hopefully find out the sex of the baby for March 27th. In 3 1/2 weeks we will finally know if we will be searching through girl's names or boy's names for our first baby. Crazy as it sounds, that week will also mark the half way point until baby is born, too! Ready or not, time is flying by!

I also wanted to mention that I've made some changes to the comments section, so for those of you who have had trouble leaving a comment, you should have no trouble just choosing "anonymous". Just make sure to sign your name so I know who you are :)

17 Weeks (and definitely showing!)

Wow! It seems like I grew a few inches wider just over this past week! It may be because baby is going through a growth spurt right now and will double in size the next couple of weeks. Currently she is 5 inches long (about the size of a large onion) and weighs 5 ounces. This shirt has a lot to do with how pronounced I look as well because it conforms to my every-growing belly (thanks, Mom!) I am enjoying everything about pregnancy including the extreme body changes. This week I've had my first few inquiries about my pregnancy from complete strangers, so I must obviously look like I'm expecting :) I know I may get tired of talking to people about my belly and the baby inside, but right now it is so exciting! Some people have asked how I've been feeling throughout this whole process and so far I literally have no complaints. I am counting my blessings, too, because not everyone has it this easy. I am aware, though, that I will be my biggest at the hottest time of the year, so I may not paint such a rosy picture then! For now I will enjoy every moment and try to remember how amazing it feels to be carrying our first child.

16 Weeks

On Saturday, we hit the 16 week mark. Baby is now the size of an avocado or approximately 4 1/2 inches long. My apple last week was quite large, so the comparison might not look right, but I know you get the idea! I've read a few places that the baby's ears are beginning to function so we will start playing some good music for baby to hear and reading to him/her now. I wanted to keep track of some of the cravings I've had recently, so I'm going to make a list:
  • Rice Krispy treats
  • Ravioli
  • Hummus
  • Pancakes
  • Bavarian cream-filled donut
  • Cinnamon bears
  • BLT
Many of my cravings don't last long and I seem to want something after hearing someone talk about it or seeing it on t.v. The only reason I even call some of them an actual craving is because I obsess over them until I get them. Then, I may repeat the urge, like with hummus and pita chips, or it becomes a one-night stand version of a craving. In other news, Tim and I have both been really sick the last 2-3 weeks and we both finally went to the doctor last week. I was particularly hesitant because I didn't want to have to take any medication, but since I had a sinus infection, my doctor gave me an antibiotic that would be safe for the baby. We were miserable, to say the least, until this weekend. At my doctor's appointment for my cold, though, she listened to the baby's heartbeat and it was as strong as ever. I never tire of hearing that sound! I hope everyone is well and enjoying the updates as much as I enjoy reporting them! Feel free to leave a comment saying hi because I'm not sure who actually reads this and I would love to hear from you.  Love to all.

15 Weeks

Can you believe that it's already been 15 weeks? Our little baby is now a total of 4 inches long (about the size of an apple). Since I eat apples on a regular basis, it's fun to just look at one and try to imagine what he/she looks like. Last week Tim's parents were able to come and visit us for a few days, which was so much fun! We took a trip to the little maternity store in the next town over and they bought me a few cute things including the shirt I'm wearing in the picture. I love that I'm showing more and more each week! We also got a goodie bag FULL of surprises for baby bird from Tim's grandma and grandpa. It was pretty surreal to look through all of the baby clothes, diapers, and books that will soon be used on an actual baby...that I will give birth to! Wow!

14 Weeks

Yesterday, the baby and I hit the 14 week mark. He/she is currently the size of a lemon (3 1/2 inches long and weighs 1 1/2 ounces). For those of you who are especially observant, you probably noticed that this update was 5 days later than usual. That is because my doctor has moved my due date 5 days later to August 8th. I had an appointment on Monday and she took another look at the 10 week ultrasound and combined it with some other information to determine that I  may not be quite as far along. It's only a 5 day difference, but I was a tad bit bummed. I am just so excited to meet this baby and right now it couldn't come fast enough! I've been feeling well and enjoying any and all foods again including Sugar! Obviously I'm trying to eat healthy, but a little sweet now and then will be good for the baby! From the sounds of it, everything exciting will be happening around the 20 week mark: we'll find out the sex of the baby, I should be able to feel movement for the first time, and my belly will fill out to the size of a basketball. Although I'm looking forward to all these things, I want to remember to enjoy these weeks in between as well because it will all go by way too fast.

13 Weeks

Baby bird is 13 weeks old today and we've officially entered the second trimester! For me the second trimester doesn't necessarily mean an end to morning sickness like it does for many people since I have been blessed to have had hardly any nausea at all. Instead, it means the beginning of growing a "real" baby belly, feeling my little one move and kick for the first time and sharing the excitement with Tim, and finding out if my baby bird is a boy or a girl! Lots to look forward to in the coming weeks and I can't wait to share every bit of it with all of you! As you can see, baby is the size of a peach this week at almost 3 inches long and weighs nearly an ounce. Tim and I sure do love our little peach!

12 Weeks

I am 12 weeks today and I have the belly to prove it! The baby is currently the size of a lime and since I forgot to purchase a lime, this is my homemade version of one. So, technically baby is approximately 2 and 1/8 inches long from head to rump. He/she is growing fast! Tim and I took a trip to Spokane today to visit the Nordstrom Rack (for him) and the Motherhood Maternity store. We both had good luck shopping and I came home with 3 pairs of maternity pants and 2 shirts. I can tell already that I am going to LOVE elastic during this pregnancy! I have on my new jeans in the picture above and you can't even tell that they are maternity. While in Lewiston the other day for Tim's racquetball tournament, I found a little something for baby that I could not pass up.

Aren't these just the cutest, little ducky jammies? I cannot wait to hold our baby in this because it is so soft.

Hope you enjoy the belly updates because they will be appearing weekly from now on so I can remember every fun change my body makes and so my family and friends can keep up with my ever-growing baby. Love to everyone.
